Red Lake Department of Public Safety/FBI investigating May shooting

According to William Brunelle, Red Lake Department of Public Safety Director, on the evein gof March 8, 2014 at approximately 7:42 PM, the Red Lake Department of Public Safety received a 911 call regarding a shooting that occurred at a rural Red Lake residence.

Officers responded to the residence and discovered a deceased male identified as Donald May Jr., age 58, with a gunshot wound.

Mr. May served as a District Tribal Council Representative for the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians.

A female, age 47, was also present at the residence and was taken into custody and faces charges of domestic violence, third degree assault and disorderly conduct in Tribal Court.

The shooting incident remains under investigation by the Red Lake Department of Public Safety and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Representative Donald "Dudie" May Jr. was laid to rest on Friday, March 14, 2014 in Red Lake.
