Bemidji police warn of phone scam

BEMIDJI -- Bemidji Police are warning residents to be aware of a new telephone scam.

Bemidji residents are receiving phone calls from individuals claiming they are support personnel for Microsoft, according to a press release. The homeowner is told that their computer updates for Microsoft have failed and that they should download "teamviewer."

he program allows the caller to remote into and have complete access to the homeowner's computer, police said. If residents receive a phone call from the number (215) 220-2321 or another number by someone claiming to be from Microsoft, they should hang up the phone, police said.

Also, police said people should not open or download any files from unknown sources. Just clicking on an unknown link can allow malware access to your computer, police said.
