College basketball: Leech Lake Tribal College wins conference title

CASS LAKE — The Leech Lake Tribal College men’s basketball team finished the winter 13-7 and captured the regular season championship of the NIAC Conference in the program’s first year as a member of the league. The team also placed third in the conference tournament.

“It means a lot to win the conference. It was our goal from the beginning of the season and it feels good to accomplish that goal,” said LLTC coach Brady Fairbanks.

Representing LLTC on the all conference team were Kylel Raisch who averaged 12 points and eight rebounds per game, Brandon Masten who averaged 15 points per game and Martin Wind who averaged 19 points and 4.4 assists per contest.

Wind also was named the NIAC Player of the Year and Fairbanks was named Coach of the Year.

Representing the LLTC women’s team on the all conference squad were Danielle Staples (21 points and 15 rebounds per game), Justine Jourdain (10 points per game) and Sam Rambeau (15 points per game).

The women’s team posted a 3-13 record and finished third in the conference standings and in the league tournament.
