UPDATE: Power goes out in downtown Bemidji

BEMIDJI-- A downed tree cut electrical power for most of downtown Bemidji late Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

Beltrami County Emergency Management Director Beryl Wernberg said a tree fell on power lines near the post office downtown at about 4:30 p.m. and cut power to a feeder line to Nymore as well as a line to the downtown area.

Wernberg said stoplights were also not functioning and advised motorists to exercise caution near intersections.

Representatives from Otter Tail Power Company said power was expected to be restored at about 8 p.m.
