First Lady Michelle Obama Invites Boys & Girls Clubs of America to Join Partnership for a Healthier America

We’re proud to share that Boys & Girls Clubs of America is officially joining with First Lady Michelle Obama and Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA) to continue creating healthier environments for Club kids.

First Lady Obama and PHA will make the announcement tomorrow, Tuesday, Feb. 25, at the Gwen Cherry Recreation Center, in partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade. Following on the heels of the January partnership announcement with Alliance for a Healthier Generation, the PHA partnership is reflective of our Healthy Lifestyles impact agenda as a leading force for wellness for America’s kids. BGCA will be joined by the National Recreation and Park Association in tomorrow’s announcement, representing a reach of more than 5 million kids, who will have access to healthier programming, demonstrating that we are truly moving toward a new, healthier norm in out-of-school programs.

Through the partnership, BGCA will encourage Clubs to adopt strong standards for nutrition and physical activity during the next five years. This includes emphasizing the importance of healthier food and beverages, providing nutrition education, encouraging physical activity, and engaging parents by using informational material and activities focused on healthy eating and physical activity. The Alliance for a Healthier Generation will provide the technical assistance and support to implement the new healthy guidelines. Clubs will receive additional information regarding these standards and resources during the coming weeks.

Stay tuned to BGCA.org and social media channels for updates from this exciting announcement event.
