One killed in accident at Highway 71 intersection

BEMIDJI -- One person was killed in a two-vehicle accident north of Bemidji this afternoon.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a 1997 Chrysler Town/County was eastbound on Balsam Road and was entering Highway 71 when it was struck by a 1996 Chevrolet pickup driven by Jason Stubbe, 27, of Bemidji, who was traveling south on Highway 71. The driver of the Chrysler was killed in the accident, the patrol said. The person's name has not been released. Stubbe was transported to Sanford Bemidji Medical Center with serious injuries, the patrol said. He was listed in stable condition Monday afternoon, according to Sanford spokesperson Lindsey Wangberg.

According to the patrol, Stubbe was wearing his seat belt and the air bag in his vehicle did deploy.

The accident occurred just after 1 p.m., and road conditions were listed as icy, the patrol said.
