Wallie Burnette, age 30, of Naytahwaush, MN, died on Monday, February 3, 2014, in his home.

Wallie Joseph was born in Detroit Lakes, MN, on August 25, 1983, to Gina Burnette and Wallie Lang. He grew up in Naytahwaush and graduated from Mahnomen High School with the class of 2001. Following graduation, Wallie attended Northland Community and Technical College in Thief River Falls, MN, and received his diploma in Auto Body. He also studied as a wind energy technician through the Pathways to a Greener Future Program.

If it was a sport, Wallie could do it, and do it well. Beginning in junior high, he played football, followed by high school basketball and later taking up golf, horseshoes, softball, pool, and riding dirt bike. He was an all-around competitive sports enthusiast. Wallie also enjoyed the great outdoors with fishing, leeching and ricing. He also loved cars and working on them. His character was one of a loving, caring and generous spirit with a great sense of humor. Wallie was fun, outgoing and a joy to be around. He was always trying to help someone out or give them a ride. He would give you his last $5.00 in his pocket if you were in need. Wallie liked spending time with family and friends and adored his boys.

Wallie is survived by his three sons: Jesse James, Joseph Avery and Julian Gene; his mother, Gina Lang, Naytahwaush; his father, Wallie (Josephine Johnson, Thief River Falls, MN) Lang, Moose Lake, MN; grandmother, Ada Burnette, Naytahwaush; his girlfriend, Lacy Armstrong and step-daughter, Dalauni, Naytahwaush; two brothers, Gene Lang, Ogema, and Codey Lang, Naytahwaush; three sisters: Brittany Wadena, Bethany Wadena, both of Mahnomen, and Julie Wadena of Grand Forks, ND; one niece, Natalia; two nephews, Isaac and Caidyn; several cousins and special extended family, the Giards.

Wallie was preceded in death by his grandparents: Arthur Lang, Evelyn Guinn, and Edward Burnette and several cousins.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 7, 2014, at the Old Community Center in Naytahwaush. Visitation will begin Thursday, February 6th at 5 p.m. at the Old community Center and will continue until time of the funeral.

Interment will be held at Samuel Memorial Episcopal Cemetery, Naytahwaush, MN.
