Darren Lee "Scruff" Cook, Sr., Chi-Makwa "Big Bear," 40 of Red Lake journeyed into the Spirit World Friday, January 31, 2014 at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center.

Funeral Services will be 1:00 pm, Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at the Red Lake Humanities Building in Red Lake, MN with Father Jerry Rogers officiating. A wake will begin 3:00pm, Monday, February 3, 2014 at the Red Lake Humanities Building and will continue until the time of the service. Interment will be at the St. Mary's Mission Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake, MN under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji.

He was born January 20, 1974, to Wendell Cook and Sylvia Branchaud in Red Lake, MN. Darren was educated in Red Lake where he received his GED. Darren was employed at the Red Lake Schools as a bus driver, and moved on to work for New Beginnings as a job counselor until the time of his passing. Darren was engaged to Jessica Urrutia, and they planned to wed on August 16, 2014. Darren was always a good father to his children, they were his world. Darren enjoyed golfing, hanging out with his friends, singing, traveling to Pow-wows, and spending time with his family. He enjoyed watching UFC, The Walking Dead, and his favorite New York Yankees. He was one of the original singers for Eyabay, who were World and International Singing Champions. He was well known throughout Indian Country. He will always be remembered as the most kind and caring person.

He is survived by: Parents, Wendell Cook and Sylvia Branchaud, Grandfather, Hank Cook, Fiancee, Jessica Urrutia, Mother-in-law, Paula Urrutia, Father-in-law, James Thibault, Children, Alyssa, Robyne, Kiana, Darren Jr., Brady, Alexys, Miigwan, and Mika, Sisters, Renae (Justin Auginash Sr.) Cook, Jenelle Cobenais, Jo (Josh Neadeau) Cobenais, Nephews, Justin Auginash Jr., Nicholas, Miles, Nieces, Justyce, Aryelle, Amya, Brittany, Jenessa, Special Aunt, Ethel Branchaud, Special Uncle, Larry Branchaud, Special Sister, Dawn Branchaud, Special Brothers, All of his singing brothers.

He was preceded in death by his Grandparents Tippy and Kicken Branchaud, Grandmother Anna Auginash, Aunt Diane Cook, and Niece JolieAna Cobenais.
