Harry Gaylord Flute, age 78, of Fort Thompson, South Dakota Journeyed to the Spirit World on Wednesday, January 22nd, 2014 at Sanford Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

He was born on August 30, 1935 in Crow Creek the son of Harry Clarence and Alice Ann (Carpenter) Flute.

He attended school in Gann Valley, South Dakota.

On December 24, 1959 Harry was united in marriage to Margaret June Jandreau and together they raised seven children.

During his life Harry held many job titles. He was a police officer and dispatcher at The Lower Brule and Fort Thompson Communities, CHR Director in Fort Thompson and served on The Tribal Council for the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe.

Harry enjoyed fixing on cars in his spare time and taught his grandsons a lot about working on vehicles, which they still enjoy doing.

Harry use to enjoy fishing when his children were small. They spent a lot of time along the river catching fish. Harry also loved to tinker around with broken electrical appliances and fixing things that were broken.

Harry is survived by his wife of fifty-four years: Margaret (Jandreau) Flute of Fort Thompson and their seven children: Ruth Johnson and Alvin of Fort Thompson, Gary Flute Sr. of Colorado, David Flute and Josephine of Huron, South Dakota, Sandra Harmon and Dean of Fort Thompson, Kenneth Flute Sr. and Crystal of Chamberlain, South Dakota, Estelle Flute and Floyd of Lower Brule, South Dakota, Steve Flute and Bobbie of Kimball, South Dakota; sister: Jeannie Eagle of Fort Thompson; a brother: Donald Eagle and Karen of Mission, South Dakota, Hunka brothers: Lindell Howard of Mt. Vernon, South Dakota and Matthew Hunter of Mitchell, South Dakota and Hunka sister: Nancy Hunter of Mitchell, South Dakota; Hunka grandson: Mosheh Mitchem and Vange of Mitchell, South Dakota; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his paternal grandparents: Charles Moses and Mary Ann Cekpadutawin Flute and maternal grandparents: Jay and Martha (Grey Bird) Carpenter, aunt: Mabel (Carpenter) Eagle and Herman and by a brother: Sherman Eagle.

All night wakes will be held on Sunday, January 26 and Monday, January 27th beginning 5:00 P.M. at The Crow Creek Tribal Hall in Fort Thompson, South Dakota.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 28th at 1:00 P.M. at The Crow Creek Tribal Hall in Fort Thompson, South Dakota. Reverend Lindell Howard will officiate.

Interment will follow at The Presbyterian Cemetery in Fort Thompson.

Honorary Casket Bearers will be Nancy Hunter, Jeannie Eagle, Rhonda Aungie, Diana Harmon, Ruth Johnson, Marilyn Jandreau, Sherwood Hawk, Donald Eagle, Crystal Hopkins and all his family and friends.

Casket Bearers will be Darrell "Diz" Herman, Michael Harmon Sr., Anthony Aungie, Roy Ziegler, Alvin Johnson, Justin Hawk Wing, Codi Harmon and Matthew Hunter.

Flower Girls will be Sara Flute, Caitlyn Flute, Hailee Harmon, Cassie Harmon and Erica Harmon.
