Barry Babcock to speak at Bemidji Public Library Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014

Will tell the story of the famous Bonga family of northern Minnesota

Thursday Night: January 23, 2014 at 6:00 PM, at the Bemidji Public Library, my gichi-niiji...and friend of Indian Country...Barry Babcock, will tell the story of the famous Bonga family of northern Minnesota; from the book he is writing, "The Life and Times of George Bonga: A Looming Figure in the Northwoods."

The Bonga's, who have fallen through the cracks of MN history, were half African & half Ojibwe and had a huge impact on life in the state.

This is the second of the four part "Beltrami County Histories series presented at the Library by the Beltrami County History Center.

This talk is "a safe abode in the wilderness where all things are free," and a discussion of the interesting life of George Bonga and his role in the exploration and fur trade of Northern Minnesota.

If you have not heard Barry speak, you are in for a treat.
