RLNC Megizis run out of Steam in 84-71 loss to LLTC Lakers

Red Lake Nation College Megizis hosted Leech Lake Tribal College Lakers on Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at the Red Lake Humanities.

In front of the Megizis' largest crowd ever, Red Lake started off with a 16-0 run in the first half, before Leech Lake could finally get on the scoreboard.

By the halfway mark, Leech Lake had caught up and took the lead, but Red Lake still led 35-34 at the half.

Down the stretch the Lakers came on strong, and with just 3 players on Red Lake's bench, it was just too much for Red Lake, as they ran out of steam in their 84-71 loss to Leech Lake.

But it was a very exciting game, with the Megizis in it all the way, and fans from both Leech Lake and Red Lake got to enjoy some fast paced basketball.

At half time of both women's and men's games, 10 names were drawn from those in attendance for an opportunity to make a shot from half court for some cash. During the women's game, the cash amount was $500, of which no one made the shot. Henry Donnell's shot was probably the closes, as his hit the rim off the backboard.

At halftime of the men's game, that amount went up to $1000. Gerald Kingbird Sr. wa the closest to nailing it, as his shot went into the rim and bounced around a couple of times before bouncing back out. Rob Beaulieu Sr. also came close as his shot hit the rim.
