Child Care Provider Conference

The Thief River Falls Early Childhood Initiative Coalition would like to invite you to their first annual Quest for Quality Child Care Provider Conference. The conference will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls.

The conference will feature Penny Andrist of Penny and Pals. Their music is nationally acclaimed for its excellence. Every CD and video they have produced, seven and counting, has garnered recognition, including two Parent's Choice Awards, Parent Council selection, Parent's Guide to Children's Media Award, National Safety Council First Place Award, International Reading Association "Celebrate Literacy" Award and International Communicator Award.

You will have the opportunity to attend 2 out of the 4 breakout sessions:

1. MESSY ME - This training will give providers activities to do in their care that will give children early creative explorations that are positive. Activities will be geared towards allowing the child to explore, social interaction, self-concept, raise their curiosity through messy play; stimulate their senses through sensory play, and creativity by using science and art activities. Each child is unique in their own way.

2. CONFIDENT COMMUNICATIONS WITH PARENTS - Many times providers make the comment "the kids are easy, it's the parents I have trouble with". Come and discuss issues around communicating with parents – sharing the good, expressing concerns, and resolving conflict.

3. WHY KIDS DO WHAT THEY DO (AND WHEN TO BE CONCERNED) - Learn about what stresses kids out and why they act out the way they do. Tips will be provided on how and when to talk to parents about these stressors.

4. WHAT'S BUGGING YOU? - Children are infamous for brings home every "bug" imaginable. Everything from the common cold to head lice are present at schools, daycare, and other children friendly places. Learn what some of these "bugs" are, how to recognize them and what to do about it.

You will also have the opportunity to browse the vendor tables during lunch and the breaks.
