Darren Joseph Redday “Wambdi Cikila”, age 46, of Sisseton, South Dakota Journeyed to the Spirit World on Monday, January 6, 2014 at The Coteau des Prairies Hospital.

He was born on February 23, 1967 in Sisseton, South Dakota the son of Howard & Helen (Eagle) Redday.

Darren resided in Sisseton, South Dakota. Darren and Maria met in 2001 and have made a life together. They were blessed with Maylie in 2009. Maylie was one of greatest joys in his life! From the time she became part of their life, he said he enjoyed watching her grow. Darren mentioned how he missed out watching his own children grow. Darren and Maria spent every day together, except from the time he was in the hospital or traveling to Pow-wows.

Darren was educated in the Sisseton Public Schools but graduated from Job Corp in Utah.

He worked at various places as a Sous Chef and Supervisor at The Dakota Magic Casino in Hankinson, North Dakota. He also worked Security at The United Tribes.

Darren enjoyed making hand drums, various arts and crafts. He loved to sing at pow-wows, entering in contests which he always placed 1st and 2nd with his drum group (“B. Lake”, “Screaming Eagles”, “Willow Creek” and “Itaziptco”). He always offered a helping hand to those in need or anyone who asked no matter what time day or night. He was loved and respected by many!

He leaves behind his children: Alexis P. Redday married to Brandon Miller, Westley A. Redday and adopted as his own LaDella L. Lee and Maylie Owen all of Sisseton, South Dakota; grandchildren: Zailee P. DuMarce, Lainee P. DuMarce, Vylette J. Miller, Drayven AJ Miller, Wakinya A. Redday and Gaberial M. Redday; loving companion: Maria Owen of Sisseton, South Dakota; brothers: Gorden R. Redday Sr. (Noreen), Dennis W. Redday Sr. (Sandra) all of Sisseton, Howard L. Redday Jr. of Peever, South Dakota, Morgan L. Redday Sr. (Darlene) and Emmett G. Redday all of Sisseton, South Dakota, Leroy R. Redday of Madison, South Dakota and Richard Wilson of Sisseton, South Dakota; sisters: Phyllis Redday Roberts of Sisseton, South Dakota, Maxine Redday Renville (Darrel) of Sisseton, South Dakota, Brenda Redday of Bismarck, North Dakota, Betty Redday Dwarf (Clayton) of Fort Yates, North Dakota, Bonita J. Redday Wilson (Glenn) of Sisseton, South Dakota, Maria B. Redday Decoteau (Brian) of Sisseton, South Dakota and Delores Wilson-Larson (Terry) of Fergus Falls, Minnesota; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by his mother: Helen Eagle Redday, his father: Howard L. Redday Sr., brothers: Roger Redday Sr., Floyd Redday Sr., Elroy F. “Sammy” Wilson, Robert Nathaniel Wilson, sisters: Giala Mae Redday and Shirley Yvonne Wilson.

Funeral services for Darren Redday will be held on Friday, January 10, 2014 at 12 Noon at The Community Center in Old Agency Village, South Dakota.

Drum Groups: Hoka Wicasta

Interment will follow at The Traditional Burial Grounds in Sica Hallow.

All night wakes will be held on Wednesday, January 8th and Thursday, January 9th beginning at 7:00 P.M. at The Community Center in Old Agency Village, South Dakota.

Honorary Casket Bearers will be Buffalo Lake Sun Dancers and singers, Louis Hart Jr., Les Barse Jr., Floyd Jr., Chris Redday, Chris Wilson, David Bird, Kip Renville, Warren Redday, Tyson Redday, Glendon Wilson, Tracey Hart, Miranda Redday, Claudette Dwarf, Short Foot Creek, Maphiya ho Tanka Drum Group, Rock Creek, Bullhead SD and all singers.

Casket Bearers will be, John Eagle Jesse“Chaz” Clairmont, Archie Fool Bear, Les “Junior” Barse, Brian Decoteau, Brandon Miller, Galan Renville, Robert Renville, Glendon Wilson, Tyson Flute, Seth Eastman, Paten Ducheneaux, and JRen Renville.
