Corey Andrew Beaulieu rings in New Year as first baby of 2014

BEMIDJI -- Sanford Bemidji Medical Center's first baby of 2014 is Corey Andrew Beaulieu, who was born at 11:31 a.m. Wednesday.

Named after his father and grandfather, little Corey weighed in at 7 pounds, 7 ounces and measured 20½ inches at birth. His parents are Whitney Jourdain and Corey Beaulieu of Red Lake, Minn.

Jourdain and Beaulieu had a routine prenatal visit with their physician on Tuesday in Red Lake as her due date was not until Jan. 13. Jourdain was dilated, but showed no signs of labor at the appointment, officials said.

But that changed by Tuesday evening, and the couple traveled back to the Red Lake Hospital. When staff there confirmed she was in labor, the couple was transported by ambulance to Sanford Bemidji, arriving at 1 a.m. In a news release from Sanford, Jourdain and Beaulieu said the birth was an experience they will never forget and an amazing way to start the new year.
