George Douglas Dick, Sr.

George Douglas Dick whose Ojibwe name is "Giimiiwan" which means "it is raining", 70, of Duluth, formerly of Red Lake, died Thursday, December 26, 2013 in Duluth. Traditional Funeral Services will be 9:00 am Monday, December 30, 2013 at the Ponemah Community Center. A wake will begin at the Ponemah Community Center on Saturday and will continue until the time of the services on Monday. Interment will be at the Family Burial Grounds in Ponemah, MN under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Blackduck.

George was born January 8, 1943 in Ponemah, Minnesota, the son of Joe and Nellie (Sayers) Dick. He was raised and educated in Ponemah. He was a carpenter by trade. He was a teacher of the Ojibwe culture and language and was a spiritual advisor at the Fond du Lac reservation for many years.

He is survived by his children- George Joseph Dick of Duluth Michelle Dick of Thunder Bay, Ontario Candace Pierre of Thunder Bay, Ontario Angie Baumchen of Hibbing, MN Anthony LaRanget of Nashwauk, MN Patrick Pierre of Grand Portage, MN Jennifer Robinson of Twin Cities many grandchildren and great grandchildren sister- Pam (Mark) Pierce and an aunt Ramona (Sayers) Manuel He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings – Eldora Long, Gordon Dick, Margaret Rose Dick and Dorothy Dick.

Casketbearers will be his family and friends.
