R2AC Awards Individual Artist Grants

Region 2 Arts Council (R2AC) recently awarded $5,000 through the Individual Artist Grant Program to individual artists in Beltrami and Mahnomen Counties. The purpose of this grant is to stimulate new artistic endeavors in the region by providing project assistance to regional artists who are seriously committed to their work and to the advancement of their artistic careers. The Individual Artist Grant Program is supported by a grant from the McKnight Foundation.

Sarah Teresa Vaughn was awarded $1,000 to self-publish her book, “Where is Reality?”

Pamela Kerssen of Fosston was awarded $1,000 to continue creating quilts for future generations.

Les Sanders was awarded $1,000 to develop his carving skills to a professional level that he can share with people of all ages and abilities.

Shannon Lucas-Westrum of Bemidji was awarded $1,000 to develop a working jeweler’s studio to further her artistic vision by incorporating beading, glass, wire, precious metals and gemstones.

Josh May was awarded $1,000 to purchase an AKI electronic wind instrument and specialized carrying case for composition and performance of music.

The next Individual Artist Grant deadline is February 5, 2014
