Frank Edward Spears, 58 of Red Lake, MN died Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at his home.

Funeral Services will be 1:00 pm Saturday, December 7, 2013 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Red Lake, MN with Rev. Jerry Rogers officiating. A wake will begin at 11:00 am, Friday, December 6, 2013 at the Red Lake Center and continue until the time of services on Saturday. Interment will be at the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake, MN under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji.

He was born December 12, 1954 in Red Lake, MN the son of Albert and Eunice (Bedeau) Spears. He was raised and educated in Red Lake, graduating from Red Lake High School in 1972. He moved to Minneapolis after completing high school where he attended classes and worked various jobs. He moved back to Red Lake in 1983, and met Melvina Defoe that year, the love of his life. He began working as a woodland fire fighter for the Red Lake DNR Forestry in 1985 and worked there for the rest of his life. He was a hard worker who loved his job, it took him all over the United States helping to fight wildfires. He loved sports, watching them on TV and playing them. He helped form the "Renegades" softball team, and helped organize basketball and softball tournaments in Red Lake. His pride and priority lately has been seeing his son Brandon attend college.

He is survived by: wife, Melvina Defoe, Son, Brandon Spears, Daughter, Kelly L. Defoe, Grandchildren: Randy (Taneeka) Defoe, Daniel Neadeau Jr., Kelsey L. Defoe, Cassandra A. Defoe, Courtney J. Defoe, Special Great-Granddaughter, Adalyn Rose Defoe, Brother, Clarence (Gloria) Spears, Sisters, Kathy Dudley, Donna Jourdain, Mary Fayant, Patsy Thompson, Numerous Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Gloria Spears, brothers Albert Spears Jr., John Bedeau, Patrick Spears, and Brian Spears.

Active Casketbearers will be: Randy Defoe, Daniel F. Neadeau Jr., Justin Lussier, Aaron Cody Cook, Darwin Donnell, Patrick Dudley, Scott M. Lussier, Clarence Spears Jr., and Dylan Cook.

Honorary Casketbearers will be: Duane Spears Sr., Michael F. Beaulieu, Wally Holstein, Patrick Defoe Sr., Douglas Spears, Royce Spears, Carter Spears, Robert "B-Guy" May, and all his coworkers at the Red Lake DNR Forestry.
