Raymond W. Mayotte

Raymond W. Mayotte, age 77, of Coeur D'Alene, Idaho, went home to be with the Lord on November 6, 2013, at the Hospice House of North Idaho with his wife and best friend, Judy, by his side. A celebration of life will be held at a date to be determined in the spring at his childhood church, St. Mary's Catholic Church in Odanah, Wisconsin. Burial will be at St. Agnes Cemetery in Ashland, Wisconsin. A private burial mass will be held at St. Pius Catholic Church in Coeur D'Alene, Idaho.

Raymond was born April 27, 1936, in Ashland, Wisconsin and was an enrolled member of the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa. He is the son of Raymond E. Mayotte and Bessie LaPointe Mayotte. Raymond graduated from Ashland High School and attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison.

He has had numerous Bureau of Indian Affairs work placements in the United States and always enjoyed being relocated to a new area and meeting new people. From 1955 to 1974 he was an Employment Assistance Officer with the B.I.A. in Chicago, Illinois; Winnebago, Nebraska; Rosebud, South Dakota; Fort Totten, North Dakota; Bemidji, Minnesota; Sisseton, South Dakota and Denver, Colorado. From 1974 to 1978 he was a field representative with the Minnesota agency in Bemidji, Minnesota; from 1978 to 1983 he was superintendent of the Minnesota agency in Cass Lake, Minnesota; and from 1983 to his retirement in 1989 Raymond was superintendent of the Red Lake agency in Red Lake, Minnesota.

His hobbies were hunting, fishing, camping, bowling, traveling and all spectator sports, especially following the gonzaga men's basketball team of Spokane, Washington. His special interests were people, music, reading and current events.

Raymond Mayotte married Judy Depew in 1995 and they loved their home in Idaho. He was married to Mary Ellen Morrison of Odanah, Wisconsin, for thirty seven years until her death from cancer, and had four children from that union. He is survived by his son, Brian of Grand Portage, Minnesota; daughter, Joleen (Allan) Blue of Debary, Florida; grandsons Ian (Emily) Blue and Eric Blue of Pomano, Florida. He is also survived by his stepson Tyler J. (Tia) Depew of Denver, Colorado; and stepson Troy Depew (Tammi) of Blackduck, Minnesota. He has 3 stepgrandsons, Tanner, Tucker and Trapper; and one step granddaughter, Elliot. He also has brothers Ed (Eeana) Mayotte of Grand Forks, ND; Doug (Sharon) Mayotte of Green Bay, Wisconsin; Patrick Mayotte of Odanah, Wisconsin; Mike Mayotte of Houghton, Michigan; sister Linda Mayotte of Odanah, Wisconsin; special cousin Kate Nellis of Odanah, Wisconsin; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

Raymond was preceded in death by dear wife, Mary Ellen Mayotte; daughters Sheri Lee Mayotte and Mari-rae Mayotte Strandlien; his parents Raymond and Bessie Mayotte; his brother Warren Mayotte; sisters Norma Mayotte Connors and Lois Mayotte Deragon; his grandparents; and by stepdaughter Tracy Depew Lane.
