Eagle Adventure Lands in Ada Nov. 8

Special Activities Planned in Ada, Sulphur during November

Children’s activities, cultural crafts, art, games, nutrition education and hands-on healthy snacks will be the focus of the special event, Through the Eyes of the Eagle: Illustrating Healthy Living for Children, from 3 - 5 p.m., Friday, Nov. 8 at the Chickasaw Nation Arts & Humanities building, 201 N. Broadway, Ada. The event is free and open to the public.

Based on the children’s Eagle Books; the Eagle Adventure exhibit features fun family activities that focus on type 2 diabetes prevention.

The Eagle Books, a series of four children's books, Through the Eyes of the Eagle, Plate Full of Color, Knees Lifted High, and Tricky Treats, encourage a return to traditional ways, including physical activity and healthy eating.

Original artwork from the books is featured at both Chickasaw Nation Arts and Humanities and the Chickasaw Cultural Center until Dec. 27.

The collection of 65 original watercolors by Native American artists Patrick Rolo of the Bad River Band of Ojibwe, and Lisa A. Fifield, Oneida Tribe of Wisconsin, features illustrations from Eagle Books series authored by Georgia Perez.

A book reading of “Knees Lifted High” will take place at 11:45 a.m., along with a podcast of “Through the Eyes of the Eagle” and a Talking Circle focused on “Healthy Lifestyles” is planned for the day. Traditional, healthy snacks will be served.

The Chickasaw Culture Center is open Monday-Friday 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.

The traveling exhibition and special events are made possible due to a collaboration of the Chickasaw Cultural Center, Chickasaw Nation Arts & Humanities and Chickasaw Nation Nutrition Services, in partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The exhibit is curated by the Global Healthy Odyssey Museum with programming support from the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion and the Division of Diabetes Translation.
