Chickasaw Cultural Center Celebrates National Native American Heritage Month with several events

SULPHUR, Okla. - From honoring our veterans to sharing time-honored traditions, several exciting events are planned to celebrate National Native American Heritage Month at the Chickasaw Cultural Center, Sulphur, in November.

Veterans Day Celebration, November 9-11

A Veterans Day Celebration, a three-day observance to honor all men and women of the armed forces, will be Friday, Nov. 9 through Sunday, Nov. 11.

Special stomp dances honoring military personnel and airing of a film to honor veterans are planned for the weekend.

Active military and veterans will receive free admission to the Chikasha Poya Exhibit Center, and a 10 percent discount in the Aaimpa Café.

Thanksgiving Celebration, November 22 – 24

A three-day Thanksgiving Celebration is planned Friday, Nov. 22 through Sunday, Nov. 24.

Guided tours of the Traditional Village will be conducted throughout the day, plus a miniature Native American holiday ornament class and a children’s Christmas tree workshop are planned.

Holiday sales will be offered in Cultural Center retail shops.

Up Go the Lights! Dec. 2

The Chickasaw Cultural Center Christmas lights will be turned on Monday, Dec. 2 at 6 p.m.

The free drive-through light display will be open every evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., during the month of December.

Christmas Celebration, December 7

The annual Christmas Celebration set for Saturday, Dec.7 will include celebrations of several significant holiday traditions.

Pictures with Santa will be available in the Anoli Theater Lobby. A miniature Native American ornament class is planned, as well as a Christmas tree workshop for children.

The Chickasaw Press will conduct a book signing and holiday sales will be offered all day at Cultural Center retail shops.

A holiday film will be screened in the Anoli Theater, and a Native flute concert is also planned.

Guided tours of the Traditional Village will also be available.

Since opening in 2010, more than 200,000 guests have visited the Chickasaw Cultural Center.
