Fabian Charles “Bunky” Strong Sr., age 82, of Redby, Minnesota Passed into the Spirit World on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at The Red Lake Indian Hospital with his family and friends by his side.

Bunky was born to John “Swede” Hanson and Josie (Jourdain) Strong on February 20, 1931 in Red Lake, Minnesota.

He attended Marty Indian School in Marty, South Dakota and during his high school years he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1947 and was honorably discharged in 1951. He served in the Korean War.

Bunky worked in Minneapolis, Minnesota as a welder, truck driver, and attended Globe Business College and earned his certificate in Accounting. He moved back to Red Lake, Minnesota in 1975 and was employed with Red Lake Comprehensive Health as an Accountant until he retired in 1991.

Bunky was an avid league bowler for many years. He enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins, Minnesota Vikings and was an avid hunter. He loved traveling to Pow-wows, baseball and softball games, Red Lake Warrior Basketball games and listening to Pow-wow music.

Bunky loved his children and grandchildren more than anything in this world. He’s the kind of man that was always so proud of them, and no matter of the situation he always stood by their side. He never gave up and never let go. He loved doing anything that involved his children. If it made them happy, then he was happy and always put them first.

Survived by his wife: Nancy; daughter: Romilda Andrade; five sons: Anthony (Marlene) Strong Sr. of Fridley, Fabian (Yvonne) Strong Jr. of Coon Rapids, Darwin (Gabby) Strong of Morton, Donald “Donnie Bo” Brun Sr. of Red Lake and Roger (Dawn) Strong Sr. of Redby; a special daughter: Tashia (Brandon) Strong of Redby; twenty-two grandchildren, thirty-two great grandchildren and twenty-four great, great grandchildren; special niece: Jeanie (Herman) Donnell of Redby, siblings: Viola Cournoyer of Redby, Eugene “Jiggy” Strong of Redby, Delores Hanson Fitch of Grand Rapids, John “Ferdy” Hanson of Anoka, Esther Hanson Moore of Clearbrook, Minnesota, Marvin Hanson of Red Lake, Margaret “Olga” Hanson of Hastings; other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by his wife: Agatha Strong, mother: Josie Strong, father: John “Swede” Hanson, John Strong, a sister: Bernice Jourdain Sandoval and by two brothers: Robert Strong and Edward Hanson.

A Funeral service for Fabian “Bunky” Strong Sr. will be held on Thursday, October 24th at 1:00 P.M. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Red Lake. Father Jerry Rogers will officiate.

Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

All night wakes will be held on Tuesday, October 22nd and Wednesday, October 23rd beginning at 4:00 P.M. at The Redby Community Center.

Honorary Casket Bearers will be Buck Jourdain, Bill May, Donald Cook, Paul Beaulieu, Joe Parkhurst, Vinny White, Dr. Lourie, Dr. Cunningham and Nick.

Casket Bearers will be Gordon Strong, Marty Molina, Joe Papasadora, Brandon Mountain, Cody Strong and Anthony Strong Jr.

Alternates will be Clint Donnell Sr., Justin Donnell and Ron Cournoyer.
