Alcohol seen as factor in fatal rollover near Laporte

LAPORTE — Authorities said alcohol appears to have been a factor in a rollover crash early Monday that killed a Cass Lake man and injured two others south of LaPorte.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Anthony Hare Jr., 18, of Cass Lake, was westbound on state Highway 200 in a 1997 Chevy Blazer at about 2 a.m. when it left the road and rolled. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, and two passengers, a 15-year-old boy from Cass Lake and Jonathan White, 22, of Waubun, were taken to Sanford Bemidji for what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities said they detected alcohol on the driver and both passengers.

The patrol said the crash remains under investigation with assistance from the Cass County and Hubbard County sheriff’s offices.
