Dan Bjorkstrand, Lee Hanson and Ryan Rogers all of the Bemidji Area, take a personal challenge in competing in the Ironman competition in Madison Wisconsin on Sept 8th. Their ultimate goal is to qualify for the Ironman World Championship 2014 in Hawaii.

An Ironman Triathlon is one of a series of long‐distance triathlon races organized by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) consisting of a 2.4‐mile swim, a 112‐mile bicycle ride and a marathon 26.2‐mile run, raced in that order and without a break.

The event in Madison Wisconsin, Consists of a one‐loop swim (2.4 miles) that takes place in Lake Monona in downtown Madison. The bike course takes riders 16 miles out of town before beginning two 40‐mile loops in rural Dane County. The course offers many tough climbs and turns throughout. Athletes will run two loops, including downtown Madison, the University of Wisconsin campus, Camp Randal Stadium, State Street and the scenic path alongside Lake Mendota.

There are 50 qualifying slots for the IRONMAN World Championship in Kailua‐Kona, HI.

Dan, Lee and Ryan have been training for more than a year to enter this race. “Being able to compete in this race is a lifelong dream for me, “says Dan Bjorkstrand.
