The Reasoning Behind Red Lake School Start and Release Times

Boozhoo Parents and Guardians of Red Lake School District Students,

I apologize for not being more prompt in providing information about the changes in your student’s school day. The ten minute change of student day is the result of the district trying to consistently, across all schools in the district, maximize student learning time and teachers instruction time. We also wanted to make certain your child(ren) were being taught at their best learning time as proven by learning/teaching research.

Also, as directed by Minnesota Department of Education, teachers must be provided an uninterrupted 90 minutes each week to work in teacher teams to improve student learning opportunities ( Professional Learning Teams). This is reason for the late start on Mondays and an early release on Fridays.

As the result of the information above and the teacher work contract, all students will have the following basic schedule:

Monday, 9:00 a.m. – 3:15 p.m. (Teacher Professional Learning Team Day)

Tuesday – Thursday, 8:00 a.m. – 3:15 p.m.

Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 2:45 p.m.

Thank you for your understanding! The Red Lake School District and I are committed to providing your student with a quality education preparing them for a bright and productive future. If I can assist you in providing this service, contact me at 679-3353 ext. 1001.

Let’s Make This School Year the Best for Our Students,

Ev Arnold
