Construction updates relating to Hwy 71 and Hwy 200- scheduled for next week

BEMIDJI, Minn. - Motorists on Highway 71 south of Bemidji can expect delays beginning Monday, Aug. 12 as crews microsurface a ten-mile segment between Hubbard County Road 9 and Highway 200 in Kabekona.

A pilot car and flaggers will control traffic through the workzone, and motorists should plan for daily lane closures of up to 15 minutes in the area where crews are working. Access will be maintained for all local residents, businesses and intersections, but temporary closures can be expected as resurfacing takes place at those locations.

The resurfacing portion of the project, which will cause the longest delays for motorists, is expected to last only three to four days, weather permitting. The entire project will be complete near the end of August.

Microsurfacing is a short-term, preventive maintenance technique that uses a quick setting emulsion of oil, water, cement and aggregate to level out the existing driving surface by eliminating wheel ruts and minor imperfections. It is designed to extend the life of the existing roadway an additional seven to ten years.

ATTENTION: Anne St NW (Co Rd 52) Road Closure to Begin Monday August 12, 2013

Anne St NW (Co Rd 52) will be closed Monday morning at the junction of Hannah Ave NW due to the installation of an underground water main. Motorists will not be able to access Anne St. from US Hwy 71 (citizens who have appointments at the Clinic or Hospital should plan ahead on accessing those facilities - NOTE AMBULANCE AND EMERGENCY RESPONDERS and those going to the Hospital for Emergencies. The contractor is planning up to 2 days for the closure. Due to the short duration of this closure and the many access routes available motorists will be required to find alternate routes, no detour will be in place.

Staged throughout the coming week will be 3 additional closures along Anne St NW for utility installations. The second closure will occur at the junction of Minnkota Ave NW, another will be near the west end of the Vista North Complex, and the other at the junction of Irvine Ave NW (Co Rd 15). Further notice will be given as this utility work progresses.

Sumac Rd NE (Co Rd 57) Road Closure to Begin Tuesday August 13, 2013

In conjunction with the safety improvement at the intersection with Bemidji Ave N (Co Rd 21), Sumac Rd NE (Co Rd 57) and Country Club Rd NE, the intersection will be closed TUESDAY Morning, August 13, 2013, so the contractor can apply the bituminous surface. It will take most of the day to complete the surfacing and the contractor hopes to have the road open to traffic by late afternoon.
