Redby man indicted for tire iron attack

MINNEAPOLIS -- A Redby man was indicted last week on several felony assault charges after prosecutors say he beat two victims in their heads with a tire iron.

Ryan Devin Ravensborg, 20, was briefly held in Beltrami County Jail before he was transferred to Minneapolis. He faces two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and two counts of assault resulting in serious bodily injury, according to a federal indictment unsealed Tuesday.

On May 26, Ravensborg allegedly assaulted two victims with the weapon, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Both victims suffered skull fractures, according to the release, with one requiring staples to repair a laceration on their scalp. The second victim suffered intracranial bleeding, the release stated.

The conditions of the victims were not immediately available, and an official with the Red Lake Tribal Police Department said that information would not be released. Representatives of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, who assisted with investigating the crime, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office did not immediately reply to emails and phone calls for comment.

For his alleged crime, Ravensborg faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison for each count.

Ravensborg has no criminal history, according to the Minnesota state courts website.
