Marcella Auginash

Marcella Auginash, 80, of Redby, MN entered into eternal life Thursday, July 18, 2013 at the Red Lake PHS Indian Hospital.
Funeral Services will be 1:00 pm, Monday, July 22, 2013 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Red Lake, MN, with Father Jerry Rogers officiating. A wake will begin at 1:00 pm, Sunday, July 21, 2013 at the Redby Community Center in Redby, MN, and will continue until the time of the service at the church. Interment will be at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake, MN under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home.
She was born on August 7, 1932, in Red Lake, MN, the daughter of Joseph W. Johnson and Susan A. Johnson of Little Rock, MN. Marcella grew up in Red Lake and Little Rock, attending St. Mary’s Mission School, Marty, SD, and graduating from Red Lake High School on June 2, 1950. Marcella Johnson married McKinley Auginash on May 23, 1953 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Red Lake, MN. They made their home in Redby, MN. Marcella started her Nursing career at the old Red Lake Hospital in 1966. She worked as a Nurses Aide and went on to get a Licensed Practical Nurse Diploma from the Minneapolis Area Vocational Technical School, graduating on July 23, 1976. Marcella returned to the Red Lake Indian Health Service Inpatient Department for 10 years. Marcella moved to Aberdeen, SD, to attend Presentation College. She graduated on May 9, 1987 with honors with a Registered Nurse Degree. Marcella returned to the Red Lake Indian Health Service Hospital and retired after 29 ½ years of civil service. Marcella was very proud to be a Registered Nurse. Marcella was a great gardener, winning many awards for her canning. She loved sewing, quilting, cooking, sitting on her swing, and talking on the phone with her friends. She loved to travel, and attended Tekawitha Conferences throughout the United States. She read many books, including the Holy Bible every day. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where she served on the St. Mary’s Catholic Church Parish Council. She also served on the Red Lake Tribal Enrollment Committee. She won a contest sponsored by the Red Lake DNR and named the “Ki wo say” Wildlife Refuge for Migratory Birds. She was a very loving mother, grandmother, and friend to all.
She is survived by: Sons, Darrell (Corky) Auguinash, Bill (Phyliss) Auginash, Fred (Bridget) Auginash; Daughters, Roxanne (Darrell) Johnson, Mary (Tom) Charnoski, Susan Auginash of Duluth, MN, Trudy (Darryl) Kingbird of Redby; Special Son, Mitchell (Rochelle) Johnson of Bemidji; Special Daughters, Kathy Jourdain of Minneapolis, Nadema Agard of New York City, NY; Special Great-Grandson, Ian Auginash, Special Great-Granddaughter, Darricka Auginash; 15 Grandchildren, and 24 Great-Grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, sister Adell Appleton, and daughter Ardelle Tikayne.
Active Casketbearers will be Jared Johnson, Andrew Auginash, Tom Charnoski Jr., McKinley Auginash III, Robin Auginash, Mitchell J. Johnson, with Alternates: Chad Auginash, Fredrick Auginash, Travis Juarez, Harrison Juarez, and Ryan Auginash.
Honorary Casketbearers will be: Kathy Jourdain, Elaine Yerbich, Ruth Fevig, Lucille Auginash, Brenda Child, Phyllis Gurno, Thern Hegstrom, Debbie Barrett, Diane Roy, Marcy Yerbich, and Darricka Auginash.
