Native American youths to hit links June 8

Native American youth ages 12-18 are invited to participate in the Native American Junior Open Golf Tournament slated Saturday, June 8 at Lakeview Golf Course in Ardmore.

The qualifying tournament allows youngsters and teens the experience of a tournament atmosphere qualifying round without the pressure of preforming for a school or golf association, NAJO officials said.

It is also the qualifying tournament for five positions available on Team Chickasaw. The squad regularly participates in an annual national tournament as well as various other competitions throughout the year.

Competitors will be split between girls and boys. Medalist play will determine the winner. Groups will be split by age, according to Brett Knight, of Chickasaw Youth Services.

Age divisions for both girls and boys will be 8 to 11; 12 to 15, and 16 to 18.

Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. and tee times will be announced at registration.

A $20 registration fee will be charged to cover green fees, lunch and practice balls on the driving range.

Registration and payment will be accepted at the golf course on tournament day.

Opened in 1971, Lakeview Golf Club is located at 3905 N. Commerce Street. It features a 6,881-yard challenge from the back tees and is par 71.
