JOURDAIN/PERPICH EXTENDED CARE CENTER

Purpose of Position:

Assist the Charge Nurse in recording and charting of medical or administrative information in accordance with the guidelines and regulations governing JPECC. To ensure that facility medical records are maintained in an informative and descriptive manner. This position is delegated administrative authority, responsibility and accountability for carrying out the assigned duties. Reports to Director of Nursing. Full-time w/Benefits, Salary DOQ.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Maintain up-to-date roster of residents and to include emergency numbers.

• Answer the telephone, page calls/take messages; deliver messages to residents, etc. as necessary.

• Record appropriate resident’s identification data on designated medical records as required.

• Record vital signs as directed, print copy, and place in medical record monthly.

• Keep nursing service personnel aware of resident’s appointments, admit, transfers and discharges.

• Complete necessary medical administrative records upon the residents’ admission, transfer and/or discharges.

• Forward complete charts of discharge residents as necessary.

• Assist in the orientation of newly assigned personnel.

• Assist in maintaining nursing service work areas in a clean and sanitary manner.

• Schedule procedures in the Outpatient Departments.

• Monitor labs/complete forms as required.

• Review charts monthly and file.

• Obtain copies of report of procedures and file in medical record after seen by medical provider.

• Complete Medi-Van list and fax each Wednesday.

• If needed complete PCC’s for medical provider rounds, labs, and xrays.

• Schedule follow-up appointments with Foot Clinic, and Mental Health, etc.

• Enter appointment in the Melyx system.

• Arrange transportation for appointments and include a “staff rider” if necessary.

• Maintain CONFIDENTIALITY of resident and staff information.

• Monitor schedule for appropriate staff.

• Must pass a background check.

• Employment is contingent upon passing drug/alcohol test.

• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Required:

• GED/High School Diploma.

• Must be knowledgeable of medical terminology.

• Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures.

• Knowledge of computers and relevant software applications.

• Knowledge of customer service principles and practices.
