SHERIFF'S OFFICE INVESTIGATES BURGLARY/ ARSON AT RURAL RESIDENCE
On May 27, 2013, at 1:46 p.m., the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office, Cass Lake Fire and Leech Lake Tribal Police responded to a house fire in the 6800 block of Maple Beach Court NE in Sugarbush Township. Upon arrival at the scene, deputies found a house fully engulfed and evidence that the residence had been burglarized prior to the fire. The Cass Lake Fire Dept. responded to the scene and fought the fire. The home was a total loss.
As deputies began to investigate the scene there were indications the fire had been ignited as a means to cover up evidence of the burglary which had occurred at the scene. The State Fire Marshalls Office was contacted to aid in the arson investigation and Beltrami County deputies continued to work the burglary investigation.
Deputies developed information that an older model sedan was seen driving from the area which is described as being light brown or tan in color with a darker brown driver’s door and had a loud exhaust system. The Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information from the public regarding anyone who may own a similar vehicle or a license plate for a vehicle with this description.
