PUBLIC STATEMENT: Ute Indian Tribe

 


The Ute Indian Tribe is deeply concerned with the incident that occurred on May 15, 2013, at the Maverick Gas Station located in Ballard, Utah, involving several members of the Ute Indian Tribe. The Ute Indian Tribe does not condone such activity on or off the Reservation by tribal members.

In a unified effort to ensure the protection of the health, safety and general welfare of the tribal membership and local community, the Ute Indian Tribe is assisting the Roosevelt Police Department in the investigation and arrest of the individuals. The Ute Indian Tribe is prepared to exercise the Tribe’s sovereign authority to take all necessary steps to assist in the effort to have the individuals involved in this incident brought forth to justice.

Although no charges have been filed and no arrests have been made at this time, the Tribe will continue to monitor and assist where necessary to bring these individuals to justice.

Please be advised the Ute Indian Tribe will take all lawful action necessary to protect the health, safety and general welfare of the tribal membership and the local community.
