Celestine Maus

Celestine “Celly” Maus, 91, of Bemidji, MN died Sunday, May 12, 2013 at his residence.

Celestine Peter Maus was born in Luxemburg, MN to Henry & Mary Maus. He grew up on the family farm and attended St. Wendelin’s Parochial School. He graduated from the University of Minnesota Agricultural School in 1949. In 1951, Celly moved to Red Lake, MN and operated the St. Mary’s Mission Farm. On June 5, 1956 he married Margaret Gothmann in St. Bonifacius, MN. He joined the Bureau of Indian Affairs and would remain there until his retirement in 1988. Celly liked baseball, hunting, fishing and gardening. However, his true enjoyment was managing his property on Upper Red Lake.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret; children, Peter (Lynda) Maus, Northfield, MN, Suzanne (Pat Conn) Maus, Palmer, MN, Paul (Maureen) Maus, Salt Lake City, Utah, Mary (Michael Kosir) Maus Kosir, St. Paul, MN and 11 grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents, brothers Fr. Omer Maus, Carl & Roland; sisters, Sr. Bernarda Maus, Theresa & Margaret.
