Local Company Hits Homerun with Donation of Scoreboard to Edina Baseball Program

New amenity at Courtney Field comes courtesy of the hard work and success of locally-based Concord, Inc.

Hopkins, Minnesota ( May 7, 2013 ) – Baseball games at Edina’s Courtney Fields just became easier to enjoy thanks to the generosity of a local company with ties to the Hornet program. Concord, Inc., a leader in senior-level IT business consulting recently donated a spectacular state-of-the-art electronic scoreboard to the ballpark. An on field ceremony was conducted at the Hornets’ high school game on Monday, May 6 to dedicate the addition.

The new Daktronics scoreboard, valued at over $30,000, puts the finishing touches on the venue that will host, for the first time, the 2013 State American Legion state tournament in August. This upgrade is just one more thing that separates the Hornets from their competition. The Hornets are the defending Lake Conference champions and the Edina American Legion team won the 2012 State Title.

“The coaches and players who use this field are very grateful for the generosity of Concord, Inc.,” said Edina Legion Head Coach Nick Kennedy. “It is crucial to have the support of local businesses as we work to give families the best experience possible in amateur athletics. When a donation like this happens everyone comes out a winner. From the fans who attend the games, to the players and coaches. This donation makes the game day experience much better here at Courtney Field.”

While Concord, Inc. is headquartered in nearby Hopkins, the company’s three owners Jeff Northrup, Stuart Nutting and Chris Davis are all Edina residents. And, Northrup and Davis are Edina natives. Northrup, the company CEO, was an Edina varsity soccer captain and is heavily involved in the Edina Soccer Club. In addition to being Concord, Inc. COO, Davis, is a former Hornet basketball and baseball player, who today coaches 10-yr-old baseball in his hometown.

Davis said he is proud to help his former team. “Our company has found success and we want to share that success with the community,” he said. “I know from experience that playing sports for Edina is a special experience. Everyone expects excellence and everyone wants to beat you. What a great way to grow up. We are honored and humbled to be able to aid and extend the tradition of Edina athletics excellence. Each of the owners of the company have children in Edina youth sports. This donation was a natural for us.”

In addition to its numerous philanthropic efforts, Concord, Inc. has received the distinction of being honored four times as one of the Best Places to Work from The Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal.
