Traffic stop leads to multiple charges

BEMIDJI — A mid-April traffic stop resulted in the seizure of a loaded handgun and drugs, as well as the arrest of two adults and two juveniles for various warrants and charges.

Inside the car, Bemidji police found more than 50 prescription pain pills including oxycodone and trazadone, a mirror with drug residue, a lottery ticket rolled to snort drugs, small bags used for packaging and selling narcotics, a pistol, air rifle and brass knuckles.

hree passengers and the driver of the car traveled from Minneapolis to Bemidji on April 18. Once they arrived, the driver picked up another juvenile male and Nathan Bruce Hunt, 29, who was eventually arrested on warrants for third-degree burglary and a 2009 Cass County DWI.

Just after 1 p.m., an officer with the Bemidji Police Department pulled the vehicle over, citing tinted windows that appeared to be darker than legally allowed. Brittany Marina Archambault, 18, of Minneapolis, and the two juvenile males in the back seat, appeared intoxicated, according to a police report.

Hunt was asked to exit the car after the officer spotted him reaching for the center console. There, police found an open bottle of alcohol, over-the-counter pain pills and a dryer sheet with suspected marijuana roaches inside.

The pistol, brass knuckles and several pain pills were found in a purse containing Archambault’s ID. She was subsequently booked on felony charges of possessing a pistol, fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance and gross misdemeanor possession of a dangerous weapon.

She was also booked on a gross misdemeanor charge of introducing contraband after jail officials found three pain pills in her bra. Archambault remained in jail Thursday but is expected to be released this week on her own recognizance after serving 20 days in jail, according to court documents.

One of the juvenile males was cited for being a minor consuming alcohol, but police recommended the second male be charged more seriously after he became irate and attempted to head butt a police officer. While in the back of the car, the male, whose identity was not released because he is a minor, also kicked the windows.
