Redby man sentenced in gun case

MINNEAPOLIS – A 27-year-old Redby man was sentenced Wednesday in Minneapolis for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Timothy Stately was sentenced to 84 months in prison for possessing a 12-gauge, sawed-off shotgun.

In a plea agreement, Stately admitted that in May 2011, he possessed a 12-gauge, sawed-off shotgun with an obliterated serial number, according to officials. During that time, he admittedly participated in numerous felony offenses, including shooting into two occupied dwellings, shooting at another residence as well as a retail establishment and burglarizing and setting fire to a trailer home, officials said. Because he is a felon, Stately is prohibited under federal law from possessing firearms or ammunition at any time. He was previously convicted of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon.

The case was investigated by the Red Lake Tribal Police Department and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
