Red Lake Lady Warriors season ends with 67-46 upset by Fosston - P14

The Fosston Greyhounds jumped out to a 13-0 lead and held on for the win over the Red Lake Warriors on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at the Ralph Engelstad Arena in Thief River Falls.

Red Lake did not score until they made a free throw after 9:45 had expired in the first half. The Warriors would not get their first field goal until 11:36 had gone by.

At that point, the Greyhounds held a 19-4 lead, and it was a deficit to big for Red Lake to overcome.

The top two scorers in the game were both Freshman, as Abby Swanson led the Greyhounds with 21 points and ninth grader Averi Holthusen led the Warriors with 23 points. Mallory Manecke added 20 points and was 8-11 at the free throw line for Fosston. Lauren Wilson had a double-double for the Greyhounds with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Grace White, an eighth grader for Red Lake, scored 10 points and pulled 14 rebounds. White had a total of 29 rebounds in her last two post-season games, including 15 boards against Lake of the Woods on Thursday.

The Warriors end their best season in school history with a record of 15-6. The Greyhounds will take a 15-11 record into the East Sub-Section 8A Championship game Tuesday against Clearbrook-Gonvick in Thief River Falls. The Bears beat the Greyhounds the only time they met during the regular season 45-30 in Clearbrook.
