Alan Whitefeather

Alan Whitefeather, Omashkiigoo (Northern Anishinaabe) age 53, of Ponemah, Minnesota Journeyed to the Spirit World on Wednesday, March 6, 2013.

He was born on February 25, 1960 in Red Lake the son of Jerome and Amelia (Johnson) Whitefeather.

Alan grew up in Ponemah, Minnesota.

He attended schools in Ponemah, Chilloco, OK then graduated from Red Lake High School. He attended Northland Community College, Haskell Indian University and Bemidji State University. He held a two year Liberals Arts Degree.

Alan loved the outdoors especially fishing. He made fine woodworks and other crafts.

As a youth he was a fancy feather dancer. He knew many old traditional Ojibwa songs. He cared about his family and friends and was always willing to lend a hand and joke around. He stood his ground against racism and nepotism.

He worked for Red Lake Builders as a heavy equipment operator, computer machinist for Team Industries, night auditor and security guard for Red Lake Gaming, sawmill worker for Helblad Sawmill and was also a commercial fisherman from when he first climbed on that fish box to hang nets in 1965. He was usually in his glory talking about fish and the general injustices in life.

He is survived by three brothers: Vernon (Jean) Whitefeather, Bemidji, Minnesota, Bobby (Kathy) Whitefeather Sr. and Melvin Whitefeather Sr. all of Ponemah, Minnesota; two sisters: Donna and Eunice Whitefeather of Ponemah, Minnesota; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister: Carolyn Whitefeather.

Funeral services for Alan Whitefeather will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at Ponemah Boys and Girls Club. Spiritual Leader will be Anna Gibbs.

Interment Ponemah family burial grounds.

All night wakes will be held on Sunday, March 10th and Monday, March 11th beginning at 1:00 P.M. at The Ponemah Boys and Girls Club.

Honorary pallbearers will be Curtis Ringhand, Paul Nelson, Alfred Kingbird Sr., Robert French Jr., Albert T, Mark, Vernon, Royce and Dale Kingbird, Michael and Gerald Hawk, Donna Greenleaf and many of his former co-workers too many to list.

Active pallbearers will be Kyle, Ryder, Melvin Jr. and Arrow Whitefeather, Evan Thomas and Kevin Patterson.
