Winter storm watch issued for Bemidji, up to 8 inches of snow possible

BEMIDJI - The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for Bemidji and Beltrami County through 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Snowfall is expected to fall Monday, dropping between 4 to 8 inches in the area.

Meanwhile, the weather service also issued a winter storm warning for areas to the west and south of Beltrami County. A winter storm is expected to move across North Dakota and into western Minnesota. "A significant winter storm will impact much of the Northern Plains tonight through early Tuesday," the weather service said Sunday afternoon in a statement.

Snowfall totals between 8 and 12 inches are expected across the area, and higher amounts are possible in localized spots.

For Bemidji, the weather service has issued the following forecast:

Sunday night: A 30 percent chance of snow after midnight. Cloudy, with a low around 17. East southeast wind 11 to 14 mph. Total nighttime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Monday: Snow. High near 24. East southeast wind 11 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

Monday Night: Snow. Low around 14. East wind 7 to 10 mph becoming north northeast after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.

Tuesday: Snow likely, mainly before noon. Cloudy, with a high near 26. North wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 2. North northwest wind 5 to 9 mph becoming calm after midnight.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 29.

Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 13.

Thursday: A slight chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 33.

Thursday Night: A slight chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 19.

Friday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 31.

Friday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 15.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 31.
