Burning permits no longer needed except within the City of Bemidji

Burning permits are no longer needed due to the 4 plus inches of snow received over this past weekend.

According to the Minnesota DNR, burning permits are not required when there is 3 inches or greater of snow cover around the burn site, as is the case across the Bemidji Area. No permits are required in South Beltrami, North Cass, Clearwater, Mahnomen, Polk, and Red Lake counties effective today. North Beltrami was lifted a couple of weeks ago.

Every precaution should be taken to assure that the burning you are doing does not cause sparks to fly on your neighbor's house or in the woods.

Burn permits are always required within the City of Bemidji. They can be obtained at Fire Station #1, located at 318 5th St NW, the day of the burn and are valid for one day with burning allowed between 5:00 PM - 8:00 AM. Please feel free to contact the Fire Hall or Chief Hoefer at 751-8001 with any questions.
