Dakotah! Sport and Fitness Hosts Annual Turkey Trot 5K Winners Announced

Prior Lake, MN – On a glorious sunny morning, 235 runners participated in the 19th Annual Turkey Trot 5K, held by Dakotah! Sport and Fitness on Saturday, November 17, 2012. The 3.1 mile event started at Dakotah! and continued through The Meadows at Mystic Lake, the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community’s golf course.

“We were glad to have such a beautiful morning this year. It was the best race conditions we’ve had in many years,” said DSF Director Tad Dunsworth.

Awards were given to first, second, and third place overall male and female finishers of the 5K. The male and female top finishers also received a frozen turkey from Mazopiya. Individual age group winners also received gift cards to Mazopiya, the SMSC’s natural food market. All participants received t-shirts.

A Kid’s Fun Run drew nine participants who ran an abbreviated course on The Meadows.

The Overall Men's Winners were Nathan Wentz, 22, of Maple Grove, in first place with a time of 17:25; Shawn Husband, 41, of Savage, in second place with a time of 18:23; and Corbin Godfrey, 16, of Webster, in third place with a time of 18:27.

The Overall Women's Winners were Sadie Kroll, 16, of Hudson, Wisconsin, in first place with a time of 20:05; Jessie Zwanziger, 21, of Savage, in second place with a time of 20:09; and Sarah Foley, 42, of Cologne, in third place with a time of 20:51.

The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community, a federally recognized Indian Tribe in Minnesota, is the owner and operator of Mystic Lake Casino Hotel, Little Six Casino, Dakotah! Since 1996 the SMSC paid more than $7.6 million for shared local road construction and an additional $16.7 million for road projects on the reservation. The SMSC has also paid $14.4 million to local governments for services and another $6.4 million for other projects.
