New Casino & Hotel Planned at Warroad
The Red Lake Band of Chippewa plans to build a new, multimillion dollar casino and hotel at Warroad, Minnesota along the shore of Lake of the Woods.
It will be built just across the river from their current location, which is a casino only. The new, casino-hotel will feature a floor with 600 slot machines, a 60 room hotel, meeting and convention rooms and more.
Steve Hagen, Warroad Chamber of Commerce: "I think it could definitely have a positive economic impact. They're talking about campgrounds, boat slips, marina… that type of thing. Developing this end of the lake would be a positive for Warroad."
The Director of Tourism here says the casino expansion could open the door to more corporate conventions and meetings to an area that already has a lot to offer outdoor lovers.
Donna LaDuke, Convention & Visitors Bureau: "We are a tourist community and we have a lot of seasonal offerings. We have fishing, camping, ATV riding, snowmobiling… both winter and summer fishing. So, the expansion of the casino is going to be a large positive to attract people to our area."
Officials are also betting that increased traffic to the casino will mean increased traffic to businesses all over town.
Construction of that new casino-hotel in Warroad is scheduled to begin in March.
