POSITION INFORMATION:

Salary range: $67,047 - $82,131 ( Annually)

Position will be filled as permanent full-time.

Incumbents of this position may be subject to on-call or call back duty, i.e. irregular or occasional work performed on a day when work is not scheduled

Travel, transportation and relocation expenses are authorized and will be paid only if this would NOT be the first official duty station for the new appointee. If relocation expense allowances are paid, employee will be required to sign a one-year service agreement. Failure to fulfill the one-year service agreement may require repayment of relocation expense allowances .

Incumbent will be required to service a one year supervisory probationary period.

MAJOR DUTIES

Supervises the work of RNs, LPNs, and Medical Support Assistants

Participates with other supervisory nursing personnel in program planning; in continuous analysis and evaluation of nursing policies and procedures; in problem solving matters; in committee activities as assigned and staff education activities

Plans nursing activities to facilitate efficient operation, smooth patient flow, availability of nursing personnel, assurance that patient’s needs are promptly and adequately met and required nursing services are rendered.

Responsible for maintaining nursing accreditation standards for the health center.

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: The following Selective Placement factor has been determined to be essential for the position. Candidate must show possession of this factor in order to be minimally qualified: Must possess and maintain a valid, current, unrestricted Nurse license or certification in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Basic Requirements:

Education: Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.

Registration: Applicants must have active, current, registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

GS-11: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 level OR completion of all requirements for a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) or three (3) full years of progressively higher level graduate education.

Evaluation of Education: Graduate-level education must have been in nursing with a concentration in a field of nursing (e.g., teaching, a clinical specialty, research, administration, etc.) or in a closely related non-nursing field directly applicable to the requirements of the position to be filled.

Evaluation of Experience: Experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. At GS-9 and above, many positions require experience in a specialty area of nursing.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for all grade levels and positions for which both education and experience are acceptable.

Samples of Specialized Experience at the GS-11 is defined as work involving providing leadership, coordinating nursing activities within the assigned department, planning short and long term goals of the department, IPC initiative, developing and implementing program improvements that will have an effect on patient care and patients served, ensures that facilities policies, procedures, nursing standards, federal and state guidelines are adhered to for accreditation requirements, provides skilled and comprehensive care to patients, excises sound judgment in interpreting observations of a patient to the physician and/or initiating emergency measures when needed. Supervising nursing staff, i.e, subordinate nurses, practical nurses, medical support assistants, etc., evaluates work of subordinates and provides feedback, develops work schedules, assigns work, approving leave, identifying and providing training.

SUPERVISORY OR MANAGERIAL ABILITIES: Candidates must have demonstrated in their work experience or training that they possess, or have the potential to develop, the qualities of successful supervision, as listed below:

A. Assign to and review work of subordinates, train and work effectively with subordinates from a variety of backgrounds and with different levels/areas of training.

B. Accomplish the quality and quantity of work expected within set limits of cost and time.

C. Plan own work and carry out assignments effectively.

D. Communicate with others effectively both orally and in writing, in working out

solutions to problems or questions relating to the work.

E. Understand and further management goals as these affect day-to-day work operations.

F. Develop improvements in or design new work methods and procedures.
