Dominic RedWater

Dominic DuWayne Red Water Sr., age 66, of Harrold, South Dakota Journeyed to the Spirit World on Wednesday, October 10th, 2012 at Fountain Valley, California.

He was born on January 3, 1945 in Harrold, South Dakota the son of Robert Red Water and Mary Sargeant.

On November 26, 1967, Dominic Red Water and Leanne Eagleman were joined in marriage at St. Elizabeth Episcopal Church at Wakpala, South Dakota.

Dominic liked rodeos and was a bareback and bullrider. He enjoyed pow wows, fishing and hunting. Dominic played baseball and was a pitcher and was a basketball player.

He was a public speaker on Native American Cultural and History throughout Canada, North and South Dakota. He was the alcohol director for Swift Horse Lodge Alcohol Program.

Dominic had his own drum group “Running Eagle”.

He was a mechanic and carpenter. He also was a Ranchhand and enjoyed helping his fellow community members whenever they needed him.

Survived by companion of forty-five years: Leanne Eagleman; children: Donise Red Water of Pierre, South Dakota, Michelle Red Water of Fort Thompson, Shannon Gomez (Brian) of Plainfield, Indiana, La Costa Miner (Chico) of Rapid City, Dominic Red Water Jr. (Lynn) Fountain Valley, California, Kristi Red Water of Cannonball, North Dakota; thirty four grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; other adopted children: Ben, Sam, Jewel, Cindy, Eunice Quiver and Kipp White Cloud; siblings: Marcella Howe, James & Bella Meeter.

Preceded in death his parents: Robert & Mary, Marvin, Michael, Joseph, Stella, Lorraine, son: Robert Oliver Red Water and a grandson: Jeremy Mestes.

Funeral services for Dominic Red Water Sr. will be held on Saturday, October 20th at 11:00 A.M. at Big Bend Community Gym. Officiating Mother Liz. Lay Readers will be Red Olson and Terry Quilt. The organist for the funeral service will be Roland St. John. All Drum Groups are welcome.

Spirit Riders will be Peter Lengkeek, Wilfred Keeble and Fabian Howe Sr.

Interment St. Catherine Cemetery in Big Bend.

All night wakes will be held on Thursday, October 18th and Friday, October 19th beginning at 7:00 P.M. at The Big Bend Community Gym.

Honorary Casket Bearers will be Wilbur Flying Bye, Harvey Eagle Horse, Londell Seaboy, Ernest Redday, Buzzy Lafferty, Alfred Greeves, Alan Stickney, Charlene Lapointe, Naomi Chapman, Theresa Henry, Cedric Hall, Pinkah Green Grass, Karen Gravatt, Danny Seaboy, Ephriam Demarrias, Lyle Gravatt, Nelrene Yellow Bird, Roy Azure Sr., Marie Morgan, Lynn Red Water, Guy St. John Sr., John Howe Sr., Lori Rieder, Wes Parsons, Ty Collins and Dick Hanson, and All friends and family.

Casket Bearers Mylo Smith, Duane Stricker, Odell St. John Jr., John Jones Sr., Frankie Thunder Horse and Brian Gomez.
