Red Wing Correctional Facility Juveniles Are Back In Custody

The two juvenile offenders who walked away from minimum security confinement last night were taken back into custody this morning. They are now being held by the Red Wing Police Department while an ongoing investigation determines if additional charges will be brought against the pair.

Both juveniles were incarcerated at the Minnesota Correctional Facility-Red Wing, the state's minimum security facility dedicated to male juvenile offenders. One was 17 years old, incarcerated for burglary and the second was 16 years old, incarcerated for assault. The pair made their way over the fence at the facility at 8:20 last night, and their absence was noted by staff 20 minutes later

The Minnesota Department of Corrections immediately enlisted the assistance of several law enforcement agencies in a search for the juveniles. They were discovered this morning near the bluffs outside of the City of Red Wing after Goodhue County Sheriff's officers followed up on a tip called in by a local citizen.
