SPECIAL PROGRAMS AT THE BEMIDJI PUBLIC LIBRARY - Fall 2012 revised

Here is a revised list of special events coming up at the Library:

On Monday October 8 from 3:00 – 5:00 we will have open house at the Bemidji Public Library to introduce you to our new eBook service. You are invited to bring in your eBook device, and we’ll walk you through the steps to register for the service and download eBooks. Anyone with a valid Kitchigami Library card will have access through a wide variety of e-readers and smartphones. Books from more than 70 publishers will be available from the 3M Cloud. You can get started by going to the home page of the Kitchigami Regional Library system: http://www.krls.org. You’ll use your library card and PIN number to sign up for the Cloud Library, find directions for various devices and see the other great downloadable and streaming options that Kitchigami has to offer! And, if you run into any problems, you can always stop by the library where the staff can help with any EBook issues. We’ll be learning the nuances of this new system at the same time you are, but your questions are very welcome, and important to us!

For kids of all ages, on Saturday October 13 at 4:00 we will have a special magic show “Skullduggery”. Captain Robert and First Mate Lynn-Marie use story-telling, drama, comedy, magic, lots of great books, and audience participation to ensure a show that’s 100% fun! We especially enjoy this shows of this magic team as they always include storybook characters and titles of books in their magic show. Feel welcome to wear your favorite pirates costume to the event, but please check your swords at the door. And on the same day, we encourage you to also attend the open house at the Fire Station from 10:00 – 2:00 and then their annual fish fry at 5:00. The Fire station is right across the street from the Library – it’s a triple-header day in downtown Bemidji !

We host another special musical event on Monday, October 15, at 7:00pm “Woody Reflected-100 years of Woody Guthrie” presented by Charlie Maguire, Pop Wagner &Tony Glover. "One of a handful of the world's greatest all-time balladeers", is how writer Studs Terkel described Woody Guthrie. Long time Minnesota folkies, Pop Wagner, Charlie Maguire, and bluesman Tony Glover, come together in a rare collaboration to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Guthrie's birth in 1912 with a musical tribute to the songwriter.

And continuing with a look at history through the eyes of music, on Saturday November 17 at 7:00 p.m. we will present “Tiptoe Through the 60s” with Prudence Johnson & Dan Chouinard. These multi-talented musicians and writers will present a multi-media show on the 1960s including music, photos, dialogue, and more. You won’t want to miss this performance with Dan Chouinard on grand piano and vocals by Prudence Johnson. This performance will be held in the auditorium at the Bemidji High School.
