DNR Forestry Division closes some forest roads in Lake of the Woods County due to fire danger

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Forestry Division is closing several forest roads at the end of the day Tuesday to protect public safety and to provide unimpeded access for firefighting resources.

The North Minnie Fire near Fourtown has grown at least 4 miles to the northeast with the strong winds and low humidity on Tuesday. This fire has traveled about 8 miles northeast from its origin. The forest roads being closed are- the Faunce Forest Road south of the Spina Forest Road, the Spina Forest Road, the Canning Forest Road, the West Bankton Forest Road, and the West Rapid River Forest Road.

In addition, campers are being asked to leave the Faunce Campground and the Norris Campground as a precaution.

This road closure will be lifted when the immediate fire danger to these roads has subsided.
