Gregory James Kingbird Sr.

Waa-bi-ga-nay-osh -Flowers in the Wind Greg Kingbird Sr., 62, of Ponemah, MN died Monday, September 24, 2012 at Fairview Hospital in Hibbing. Traditional Funeral Services will be 10:00 am Saturday, September 29, 2012 at the Ponemah Community Center in Ponemah, MN. A wake will begin 7:00pm, Thursday, September 27, 2012 at the Ponemah Community Center and will continue until the time of the service. Interment will be at Family Burial Grounds in Ponemah, MN under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji.

Greg was born on August 29, 1950, in Ponemah, MN, the son of Lillian Kingbird Jones. He was raised and educated in Ponemah. He attended Red Lake High School and played basketball there. He served 2 tours in VietNam as a US Marine. When he returned to the US, he lived in Oregon, and began a career as a boxer. He moved to Minneapolis, MN, where he continued to box, started working as a roofer, and played guitar in a band. In the 1980s he began to spend time in Red Lake, and started sharing spiritual teachings. He continued to teach and serve as a Spiritual Leader the rest of his life. He worked various jobs over the years including at the Ponemah Juvenile Center. He married Leogene English on August 13, 2012, in Minneapolis, MN. He enjoyed playing the guitar, and was a people person, always willing to lend a hand to those in need.

He was preceded in death by his son Dustin Kingbird, his mother, 2 brothers, and 1 sister.
