Blackduck man ID’d in auger accident

KELLIHER – The 21-year-old Blackduck man has been identified as the victim in Tuesday’s auger accident at Hedblad Saw Mill near here.

The Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release issued Wednesday that Scott Olson was airlifted by North Memorial Air Care. He was taken to a Minneapolis hospital.

The Sheriff’s Office received a call at 2:08 p.m. Tuesday about a man whose arm was caught in an auger. The man was freed from the auger and given first aid before authorities arrived.

Olson suffered “serious injuries to his extremities and torso,” according to the Sheriff’s Office.

INDUSTRIAL ACCIDENT UPDATE - September 19, 2012

At approximately 2:08 PM on Tuesday, September 18, 2012, the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office was notified of an industrial accident involving a worker at the Helblad Saw Mill located at 42501 Pioneer Road NE, Kelliher, MN, in Battle Township approximately 55 miles north of Bemidji, who was stuck in an auger. Deputies responded to the scene and found an individual who had since been freed from the auger receiving first aid for serious injuries to his extremities and torso.

Scott Olson, age 21, of Blackduck, MN, was airlifted to an unknown hospital by North Memorial Air Care. Kelliher First Responders, Kelliher Fire Department, Blackduck Ambulance, a Minnesota DNR Conservation Officer and Beltrami County Deputies all were on scene and provided care to the victim, stabilizing him for the air ambulance transport.
