Grass and Peat Bog Fire in Battle River Township

A grass fire, reported at 1:22 PM on Monday, September 10, 2012 to the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office 911 Center, started in a peat bog in Battle River Township, located approximately 55 miles north of Bemidji in Beltrami County.

The Blackduck DNR office, along with assistance from other wildfire DNR entities to include the Red Lake DNR and Kelliher Fire are handling the fire using both ground and air assets. The Beltrami County Sheriffs Office also assisted with traffic control this afternoon.

Motorists are asked to use caution when driving in the area located at Pioneer Rd NE (Co Rd 23) 10 miles north of Hwy 1 to avoid impeding heavy equipment. Approximately 400 acres have burned. At this time, there does not appear to be danger to residents.
