VERNON E. FULLER

Vernon Eugene Fuller entered the Spirit World on Sunday, August 12, 2012 at Brightview Care Center in Chicago, Illinois. He was born November 03, 1947 in Red Lake, Minnesota, the son of Thomas and Delphine “Duffy” Fuller. Vernon was a full blood, enrolled member of the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians.

Vernon grew up in Red Lake, attending St. Mary’s Mission School, and graduating from Red Lake High School in 1965. During high school, Vernon was active in the high school band, playing the French horn and was an Indian Guide during the summer of 1965. After graduation, Vernon moved to Chicago, attended business college and lived there until his passing. Vernon served in the United States Air Force, for a time stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. Upon returning to Chicago, he was employed by the railroad and the Veteran’s Administration. In 2004, Vernon began working in the President’s Office at Truman College – City Colleges of Chicago – where he was described as “a breath of fresh air” by former President Dr. Marguerite Boyd.

Vernon is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Delphine Fuller, sister Joyce Fuller Wesley, uncle Steve Fuller, aunts Mildred Chicakaway, Pauline Fineday; and cousin Leroy Strong.

He is survived by his brother Gary Fuller, of Red Lake, MN; nieces: Arlene Murphree, Janet Wesley, Diane Whalen, all of Tulsa, OK, and Carol Scully of Powder Springs, GA; cousin Barbara Cloud of Red Lake, MN; and nieces and nephews.

A Burial Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Wednesday, August 22, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. with burial in the Catholic Cemetery.
